UVH for fruit and berries
Fruit and berries are sensitive to powdery mildew and spider mites. UVH suppresses these pests with light – without chemicals and without residues on the fruit.

Berries are picked continuously for weeks. Every spray application would have to be planned (breakdown of chemical residues, harvest times, etc.) and waiting periods would have to be respected, otherwise the active substances lose their effect and the treatment fails.
The UVH treatment can be carried out at any time and can therefore also be scheduled during the harvest period.
What UVH is used against in fruit
- Powdery mildew
- The fungus grows on the leaf surface and is directly exposed to the light. Regular treatments keep infection low.
- The plant's own defences
- The treatment can prompt the plant to produce its own defence compounds. This makes it more resistant to fungi.
- Spider mites
- The light suppresses egg hatch, so the population builds up more slowly.
Use on the farm
Treatment takes place at night. In Agroscope's trials, three treatments a week worked as well as fungicides; how often it is needed on your farm depends on disease pressure. The unit works in polytunnels and in the open field.
